Job Description
- Assist Dean of College as required.
- In charge of fulfilling all key performance indicators in General Education subjects and the day-to-day operation of learning and teaching.
- Lead the General Education Studies ensuring students learn the enabling subjects such as English, Mathematics and Science in the most effective way in the context of their parent degree award. Also ensure alignment with CAA standards, including the subject of UAE studies, while addressing global and local needs.
- Ensure effective development, updating and delivery of preparatory courses for students who have not met entry requirements, guiding them toward successful transition to the degree program of their choice.
- Lead the development of students’ key competencies like communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
- Provide leadership to the team of academics in General Education. Ensure staff used equitably and fairly, and their skills are used in the best possible way to aid academic objectives. Ensure the team offers full compliance with the requirements of the timetable and the annual academic calendar.
- Liaise closely with other Departmental Heads, Student Affairs, Marketing, Learning and Teaching, and Research Teams for the purpose of effective operation of the General Education courses as required.
- Teach a set of subjects as per contractual obligation and in consultation with the relevant College Dean using a suitable style while satisfying the requirements of the Academy. In such capacity ensure all requirements for academic teaching are fulfilled including the following:
- Use appropriate, innovative and effective pedagogic approach in the classroom. Deliver lectures and lead seminar groups as appropriate.
- Participate in the examination/ assessment process including the setting of papers, preparing marking schemes, agreeing marks with other staff. Use appropriate and innovative forms of assessment practices to enhance learning and teaching.
- Provide timely, constructive, formative and comprehensive feedback to students using all forms of communication.
- Be responsible for updating own discipline knowledge to develop research informed teaching. Bring latest research-based knowledge in the classroom. Conduct research for career development, aligning with the Academy’s ambition to be research-active institution.
- Be prepared to travel as required and occasionally work outside of the contractual standard working hours.
Qualification, Skills and Experience:
Qualifications
- E: PhD in Education or relevant subject
- P: Recognised qualification for teaching in Higher Education
- P: Industry body affiliation/ membership
Skills
- E: Ability to fluently speak, write and communicate in English at the highest level of professionalism.
- E: Team player, approachable, sensitive towards all cultures
- E: Work as and when required under pressure with the intention to complete task as promptly and efficiently as is possible
Experience
- E: Strong background in curriculum development and applied learning methods.
- P: 15 years of experience of working as an academic in an HEI with 5 years of experience in the program management capacity
- P: Familiarity with the UAE’s cultural and educational context, including national standards for education (CAA standards).
