General Admission Requirements
Applicants who meet the following General Admission requirements are eligible for program admission subject to the individual program entry requirements detailed in section (3)
- High school certificate; AND
- High school grade: 80% in English
OR IELTS-English score of 5.0 or equivalent**
OR Pass Internal Placement Test (IPT) for English
- MOE attested Secondary School certificate*; AND
- Graduated from English/American high school curriculum OR
- IELTS-English score of 5.0 or equivalent**
** An official score report of Academic IELTS band (5.0), TOEFL IBT (61), or CBT 173 or ITP 500 (ITP taken at AmidEast Institute only), Cambridge (154-161), IESOL/SESOL (B1/B2), Pearson PTE (36-41)
NAPO
All current Grade 12 students (UAE nationals and mother national children) applying for Fall 2025-2026 programs should submit their applications exclusively through the NAPO system.
Steps for Students to apply through NAPO:
- Visit the NAPO system at this link: NAPO Application Portal.
- Refer to detailed instructions for current Grade 12 students at: Details for Current Grade 12 Students.
- Select the category: Current Grade 12 students in the current school year (2024-2025).
- Click on Start a New Application.
Required Documents (Undergraduate Programs)
- Student recent photograph
- Copy of Birth certificate
- Copy of the student’s ID card and passport
- Copy of the guardian’s ID card and passport
- Copy of original Grade 10 and 11 certificates (for non-UAE curricula)
- Copy of original Grade 12 certificate
- Copy of Certificate of good conduct
- Copy of National service certificate for UAE national male applicants (or proof of exemption or postponement)
- Certificate of English language proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL, or equivalent)
- Medical report
- Equivalency certificate from the UAE Ministry of Education (for non-UAE curricula)
- Copy of Family book (for UAE nationals)
- Copy of Salary or pension letter (for citizens of the Emirate of Sharjah and children of female citizens of the Emirate of Sharjah)
- Application fees AED 660 (Non-refundable).
Required Documents (Diploma Programs)
- General Secondary School Certificate/Transcript or its equivalent approved by the UAE Ministry of Education.
- EmSat 900 in English as previously required / IELTS 4.5 / TOEFL 450 or Equivalent
- EMSat 600 Mathematics as previously required or Equivalent
- EMSat 500 Physics as previously required or Equivalent
- Not less than 17-18 years of age
- Medically fit from an approved medical practitioner
- tuition fee are charged per credit hour, at AED 1,012.50 per course credit, bringing the total program fee to AED 91,125.

Recognized Medical Practitioners and Medical Examination Centers
- For Bachelor of Maritime Transport (MT), Bachelor of Marine Engineering Technology (MET), and Diploma in Marine Technical Operations (MTO):
- For Bachelor of Logistics and Supply Chain Management and Bachelor of Maritime Business:
The medical examination is conducted at Preventive Medicine Centers under the Ministry of Health (University Enrollment Examination).
English Bridging Program
Applicants who do not meet the general English admission requirement (determined by IPT or IELTS or its equivalent) may be admitted to the English bridging program. The placement level and the number of English bridging courses required will be determined by the IPT or IELTS (or its equivalent) test results. Students who are admitted to the bridging program:
- May register for a maximum of two different bridging (prerequisite) courses (zero credit hours) per study period including English language.
- Must pass the required English bridging (prerequisite) course(s) within one year counted from the initial registry.
Upon successful completion of the required English bridging course(s), students are eligible for admission to SMA Bachelor programs (subject to individual program admission requirements)
Students who do not pass the required English bridging course(s) within one year will have their admission cancelled. They will not be able to enter any of our Bachelor programs but may seek admission into an alternative program.
Program Admission Requirements
In addition to the General Admission requirements, applicants must meet the following minimum entry requirements to be eligible for admission into each SMA Bachelor program:
Students only from Elite and Advance Streams will be considered.
- IELTS-English score of 5.0 (or equivalent) OR Pass internal Placement Test (IPT) for English; AND
- Highschool grades: 70% in both Mathematics and Physics; AND
- Medical Fitness Certificate; AND
- Pass the personal interview process.
- British System - Math and Physics at AS level with a minimum score "C" OR International Baccalaureate - min 4 points in HL Math Physics OR American High School - SAT score of 550 in Math and AP Physics 1 score of 3.0 OR equivalent as determined by SMA; AND
- Medical Fitness Certificate; AND
- Pass the personal interview process.
Students from all three streams (Elite, Adv. and General) will be considered.
- IELTS-English score of 5.0 (or equivalent) OR Pass internal Placement Test (IPT) for English; AND
- Highschool grades: if from Elite/ Adv. min 70% in both Mathematics and Physics OR if from General stream min 80% in both Mathmatics and Physics; AND
- Medical Fitness Certificate; AND
- Pass the personal interview process.
- British System - Math and Physics at AS level with a minimum score "C" OR International Baccalaureate - min 3 points in HL Math Physics OR American High School - SAT score of 510 in Math and AP Physics 1 score of 3.0 OR equivalent as determined by SMA; AND
- Medical Fitness Certificate; AND
- Pass the personal interview process.

No additional entry requirements
Applicants who do not meet the mathematics and/or physics admission requirement may be offered provisional admission into the MT or MET program, subject to successful passing of a zero-credit mathematics and/or physics course within their first year of study.
Students who do not pass a required mathematics and/or physics bridging course within one year of admission will not be able to continue in the MT or MET program. Students who fall into this category may transfer to an alternative program providing they meet the entry requirements for the destination program.
