Dr. Capt. Ashraf Ragab is a Master Mariner and maritime academic with over a decade of international experience both at sea and ashore. He currently serves as a Lecturer and Research Associate at Sharjah Maritime Academy, after an extensive career at Jade University of Applied Sciences in Germany. Dr. Ragab holds a Ph.D. in Nautical Sciences from the University of Antwerp, where his research focused on maritime safety and advanced operational systems.

Throughout his career, he has led and contributed to several major EU-funded projects, including PALAEMON, and has held prominent consulting roles in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. His expertise spans maritime safety, navigation, logistics, and training, positioning him as a prominent figure at the intersection of academic research and practical maritime operations.

- Disabilities in Evacuation - Leisure Lab Methodology to Support an Algorithm-driven Evacuation Prediction Model for Cruise Ships IEEE Nov 2021 The study was conducted using a hemiparesis simulator, with a course of 16 stations, in an amusement park in Vienna. The results showed a significant reduction in walking speed among participants using the simulator. These insights are used to develop a decision support system for evacuations and to improve evacuation algorithms.
