IMO Model Course 6.10

Summary:
The course includes technical aspects of teaching that have a direct relationwith the maritime simulator world. Simulator pedagogy, as well as psychology oflearning, forms an important element of the course.

Outcomes:

1: Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the role and impact ofsimulation in maritime education and training, and apply this knowledge toenhance realism and effectiveness in instructional delivery.

2: Apply pedagogical principles and adult learning theories to theplanning, delivery, and assessment of simulator-based training.

3: Design and conduct simulation exercises that are learner-centered,goal-oriented, and aligned with STCW and maritime competence standards.

4: Evaluate trainee performance using objective assessment tools andprovide constructive feedback to support competence development.

5: Contribute to the development and evaluation of training policies andprograms at both institutional (micro) and organizational (macro) levels,incorporating feedback and lessons learned from simulator-based instruction.

Entry Criteria:

  • A STCW A-II/2 CoC as Chief Officer or STCW AIII/2 CoC as Second Engineer, or an undergraduate degree in a     maritime/related discipline.
  • Basic knowledge of computer systems and IMO Regulations.
  • Complied with section A-I/6.4.1-2 of the STCW Code.
  • At least 6 months’ experience of providing shipboard or shore-based training.
  • Completed IMO Model Course 6.09 with SMA.
  • Fluency (both spoken and written) in the English language: either from an English-Speaking nation, or to IELTS 5.5.
