IMO Model Course 6.09

Summary:
This course is designed to facilitate the delivery of training in thecompetence standards required by the STCW 1978, as amended. Its aim is toprovide a useful introduction for those with limited teaching experience andintroduce new approaches or serve as a reminder of skills or techniques forthose who have been teaching for some time. It is not the aim to provide a fullcourse of trainee instructor training. In addition, it provides a sound basisfor the delivery of other training programmes.

Outcomes:

1: Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of adult learning andapply appropriate instructional methods to meet the diverse learning needs ofseafarers.

2: Develop effective lesson plans, teaching materials, and assessmenttools that align with STCW competence standards and learning objectives.

3: Deliver instruction using a variety of teaching strategies andtechnologies to enhance learner engagement and comprehension in maritimetraining environments.

4: Assess learner progress objectively and provide constructive feedback in ccordance with the principles of competence-based assessment.

5: Reflecton and evaluate one's own teaching practice to identify areas for improvementand ensure continuous professional development.
