Summary:

This is a practical course, consisting of a series of exercises structured around the operation of the cargo and ballast systems of an Oil Tanker and carried out using a liquid cargo handling simulator (LCHS). Simulator-based cargo planning, ballast operations and emergency management.

Outcomes:

  1. Design and characteristics of an oil tanker
  2. Oil tanker systems and equipment
  3. Pump theory and characteristics, including types of cargo pumps and their safe operation
  4. Loading, unloading, care and handling of oil cargo
  5. Effect of bulk liquid cargoes
  6. Safety Data Sheet (SDS) of variety of oils
  7. Proficiency in the use of ISGOTT
